MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service: 2008 Region III EMS Service of the Year

Marietta, GA—April 23, 2008--MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service in Marietta, Georgia has been named 2008 Region III EMS Emergency Medical Service of the Year. Region III EMS Coordinator E.J. Daily on behalf of the Region III EMS Council presented the prestigious award to MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service President and CEO Pete Quinones on Thursday, April 17, 2008.

Since 2001, MetroAtlanta Ambulance has been responding to the needs in communities throughout the metro-Atlanta area. In June 2007 they received accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services to become one of only three services in Georgia to receive the designation. As the 9-1-1 EMS provider for Cobb County they responded to more than 58,000 requests for transports in 2007, provided assistance to
other EMS services in the industry when disaster struck their communities and have worked with local healthcare facilities to find solutions to the increasing demands for affordable non-emergency medical transportation. They donated two ambulances and supplies, through local Church mission groups, to be used as mobile clinics to ensure the people in the rural villages of Haiti and Honduras had access to basic medical care. They work with the local schools and media to educate children and adults on how to access the EMS system, teach them what to expect when they call 9-1-1 and what to expect when EMS arrives.

Their commitment goes way beyond the lights and sirens of just providing ambulance services. They have become an integral part of their community. They are actively engaged in the community through volunteerism, philanthropic support and have taken leadership roles in local non-profit organizations with the missions of educating and enhancing the lives of the youth in the community, lending support to their neighbors in need or helping raise funds for the research efforts of organizations trying to find cures for illnesses and disease. Working in conjunction with others, their efforts are making a difference in the overall health, safety and quality of life we enjoy in the greater-Atlanta area. MetroAtlanta Ambulance President, Pete Quinones stated, "There are more than 34 ambulance providers in Region III alone and it is a great honor to be recognized by them with this award. Our management team and employees continue to be diligent in their efforts to keep pace with the changing needs of our customers and our patients and provide the highest quality services possible. I'm proud of them and happy to accept this award on their behalf."

The Region III EMS Council is an advisory council for the State of Georgia Department of Human Resources Office of Emergency Medical Service & Trauma, which provides oversight of ambulance, Neonatal transport services and medical first responder operations in the greater metro-Atlanta area’s Region III Health District. The office is responsible for licensing ambulance services, making recommendations for primary 9-1-1 response zones, coordinating EMT and paramedic schools, and monitoring/coordinating continuing education for the EMT's and Paramedics who serve within the Region III health district.

MetroAtlanta Ambulance is Georgia's designated 9-1-1-ambulance provider for North, Northwest, East, Northeast and parts of South unincorporated Cobb County including the cities of Acworth, Kennesaw, Marietta and Smyrna. MetroAtlanta Ambulance also provides contract interfacility ambulance transportation to 17 hospitals throughout Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gilmer and Pickens Counties. MetroAtlanta Ambulance is one of only 137 EMS providers in the world to receive accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Service, signifying they meet the highest quality standards as determined by the EMS industry.
